The one thing I’ve believed to be true all my life is that everything happens for a reason. The only thing is that sometimes it doesn’t feel that way.
Does Everything Happen for a Reason?
I heard somewhere that if you don’t know why things are playing out the way they are and you can’t see how there could possibly be a reason for what you’re going through, you’re in the happening. If you’re in the happening, and everything happens for a reason, then the reason is around the corner somewhere.
We aren’t always served a sneak peek of our dessert on a silver tray as motivation to eat all of our vegetables. In the real world, we have to eat all of our greens. Without even knowing if our favorite lava cake is waiting for us when we’re finished. The reality knife twists a bit when sometimes we eat all of our vegetables, and there isn’t any dessert at all. Or it’s like vanilla ice cream, which is basically the same thing.
Is There an End to This Rainbow?
Being in the happening is sort of the opposite of “the calm before the storm” and more like “after every storm comes a rainbow”. Sometimes, situations can seem so incredibly hopeless, frustrating, unfair, dark, etc. These are all the ingredients it takes to cook up that beautiful tangible rainbow we find dazzling in brilliance on the other end. Without reflection, it’s hard to tell when you’re in the happening. When you finally see that rainbow, suddenly, things start to make sense. There’s no universal rhyme, reason, or ripe time for this concept that everything happens for a reason. Complete surrender to the theme is where the pot of gold is found.
The happening is when things feel hard, maybe impossible. It’s when we’re given a lesson, but we’d much rather have a reward. Usually, that is when we need to struggle the most. You have to plant a seed to watch a plant grow.
So, the next time you’re going through a hard time, take a step back. Reflect on what lessons you may gain from growing through the pain you’re in. All struggles are valid, but if we don’t reflect on them and heal from them, we’ll likely see them again. Grow through what you go through, and I bet you’ll find a reason at the end of that rainbow.
