What is Cycle Syncing? Meet The 4 Phases of Your Menstrual Cycle

the different phases of the menstrual cycle

There’s more to the menstrual than the days you bleed. You have inner seasons in which the phases of the menstrual cycle repeat every month.

What is Cycle Syncing?

Cycle syncing has completely changed my life, and if you have a menstrual cycle, prepare for yours to be changed too. This topic is very special to me, and since there is a vast reserve worthy of covering, this is the start of the cycle syncing series and the first post of many.

Cycle syncing is the practice of aligning your life with the different needs and superpowers of your menstrual cycle phases. More to come with the history behind the cycle and lunar calendar, seasonal superpowers, cycle apps, what the menstrual cycle is, lack of cycle syncing knowledge, cravings, intuition, etc.

If you’re a guy or don’t have a menstrual cycle, there is still a lot to learn about people and loved ones in your life by sticking around, and I can cover the male cycle in a future episode.

To kick things off, let’s introduce you to your inner seasons: menstrual, follicular, ovulatory, and luteal.

Your Four Different Menstrual Cycle Seasons

Yes, just like Earth, you have four seasons that cycle each month. The phases of the menstrual cycle emulate Earth’s by representing an inner winter, spring, summer, and fall. However, cycle seasons last for different amounts of time and show up differently in each person. In other episodes, we’ll learn about how each season impacts your mind, body, feelings, focus, cravings, etc. This is amazing stuff and I’m so stoked to start sharing it with you.

What is the Menstrual Phase?

Winter

Your inner winter is your menstrual phase. This is Day 1 of your cycle and lasts around 1-7 days (these days are based on an example 28 day cycle but can be anywhere from 24-38 days). This is your period, what a lot of people believe to be the entirety of the menstrual cycle, but it’s just a fraction of the story.

What is the Follicular Phase?

Spring

You have something called a follicular phase, which is your inner spring. Following your menstrual cycle, follicular also lasts about a week.

What is the Ovulatory Phase?

Summer

Is it fair that your inner summer is the shortest season? No. Your ovulatory phase may sound familiar because it is when you are ovulating. Maybe you’ve heard of people tracking this part of their cycle as a method of birth control but I have absolutely no further expertise to speak on that. Your ovulatory phase is around 4-7 days.

What is the Luteal Phase?

Fall

Get ready to love pumpkin spice and everything nice because your inner fall, the luteal phase, lasts for about two weeks, dominating roughly half of your cycle. I’ve warmed up to how my luteal phase shows up for me and I’m excited to share those things with you; actually, here’s a sneak preview: laser focus, I can lock in like none other during my luteal.

See you in the next episode!
